This past weekend was another great weather weekend. I took advantage of the perfect temperatures and ran 22 miles on Saturday. Except for a little battle with my allergies, it was a terrific run. This will likely be my longest training run before the trip to Boston. It's hard to believe it is only a month away.
I also got an email from my patient partner at the end of last week, and it was great to hear that Kyle has been having some fun, too. He received many Valentines day cards, and he has been to see some plays that he really enjoyed.

20-mile training run completed
Saturday was a great day for a long run. It was overcast most of the day and in the upper 50s. I ran 20.27 miles at a pace of about 10:40 per mile. The last two miles were a little rough primarily because my back was hurting. You'd think it would be the legs...LOL. In addition to the 20 miles Saturday, I had another 7 during the week, so the weekly total was 27 miles. My body feels pretty good today, so recovery from the long run is progressing well.
This coming Sunday 3/11, there is a St. Patrick's day 5K run in Baltimore which is always a lot of fun. I have several friends that will be running, so I am definitely looking forward to it.
Only a little more than a month until the Boston marathon. Can't wait!

Good week of training last week
After returning from Miami, I had a great week of training last week with a total of more than 26 miles. I had 16 1/2 miles on the President's day holiday, and added several short-mid length runs during the week. Although I planned to get a long run in today, my legs weren't having it. I ended up running 5 1/2, and I was happy with that. I'll make it up next Saturday when my legs are a little more fresh. The weather here in Baltimore has been great, so I've been lucky enough to train outside!
On another note, Lauren and Jane from Eascorp recently met my patient partner, Kyle and his family. I am looking forward to spending some time with them myself in April at the Boston marathon!
I am going to try to update the blog at least weekly from now until after the marathon, so stay tuned!

Phoenix Marathon Training complete!
I finished my final long run to prepare for the Phoenix Marathon on New Years Eve. I ended up with 20.5 miles at about 10:36 per mile. Not too shabby for me! The marathon is a week from this coming Sunday, and I will be running short to mid-length runs between now and then.
I got an email from my patient partner, Kyle, yesterday. He said that he spent his Christmas with some family and that Santa brought him the "Operation" game he wanted. He must have been good last year! Once I get back from the Phoenix trip, I'll officially start my training for the Boston race.
On another note, next week is VACATION! So excited. I am going to St. Thomas through Wednesday. Then I fly back out Friday for Phoenix. I am definitely looking forward to it.

Christmas-time running update
Even though it has been pretty busy with the Christmas holidays and a Saturday Ravens' game (which we won!), I managed to squeeze in a couple of medium length runs.
Last Thursday (12/22) was a beautiful day, so after I finished my workday, I went for a 10-mile run. It was hard to believe I could run in shorts and a short-sleeve shirt this late in December around the Baltimore Inner Harbor!
Yesterday (12/26) it was a little chilly and kind of windy, so I ran on the treadmill at the gym instead of running outside. I ran for a little over 10 miles yesterday as well. It's probably a good thing since I had a lot of Christmas food and deserts to work off. :)
I am hoping to run 21 miles this coming Saturday which will be my last long run before the Phoenix marathon. I hope everyone had an excellent Christmas this year, and Santa was good to you!

18-mile training run completed
Before the Boston marathon in April, I will be running the Phoenix marathon on January 15th . I am in my later training stages for that run, and this past Saturday (12/10), I ran 18 miles. It was a really good run around Baltimore, and I ran the last 6 miles with my friend Karin. She took me on a new trail for me - the Gwen Falls trail. I'm still a little sore today, but not too bad.
Hopefully, this preparation and the marathon in January will help me perform well in Boston this April. I don't want to make Kyle wait too long for me at the fire station. :)

Trip to Boston
I had a great time flying to Boston on 12/3 and 12/4 to participate in the Boston Childrens Hospital and the Eascorp events. These 2 parties provide the opportunity for runners to visit with their patient partners, and for the kids to enjoy some Christmas activities.
Although my patient partner and his family and I were all at the first event, we weren't able to find each other. There were a lot of people there, and the way the space was laid out, it was hard finding people. However, I heard from Kyle's mother Kelly that Kyle had a great time. She said he liked the Polar Express ride, and he got to talk to Santa! Cool!
It would have been terrific to meet the Reilly family, but I completely understand that there were circumstances which kept them from attending the second party. We are going to keep in touch via email and this blog until April when we all get together again in Boston. Stay Tuned!
